History of the Secondary Education Teaching Program for Graduates
Among the training offers for secondary education teachers in Chile, there are simultaneous training programs lasting 4 to 5 years that integrate specialized and pedagogical training, and consecutive training programs, which offer intensive pedagogical training to those who already have a basic specialty. The Secondary Education Teaching Program for Graduates (hereinafter PEML) is one of these alternatives.
In a bid to provide the country with better quality teachers and professionals, the Andrés Bello University has installed since 2005 in República, 2008 in Viña del Mar and 2010 in Concepción, a special training program for teachers in Secondary Education: the Secondary Education Teaching Program for Graduates. This arises as a response to the need to generate a professional alternative for those who have achieved a Bachelor's degree in disciplinary areas related to the subjects of the current plans and programs for Secondary Education, as well as for those who, working in the formal school system, do not have the necessary and recognized pedagogical training to teach in their specialty.
In 2009, PEML submitted its first application for accreditation, obtaining four years of accreditation for the period 2010 - 2014, with the AcreditaAcción Agency. In 2014, it submitted its second application for reaccreditation, this time with the Aespigar Agency, and was accredited for five years, between 2015 and 2020. Now it is once again submitting its application to the CNA and has obtained four years of accreditation until July 2025.
